Post Office pickup time
Last Pickup for mail is about 6:00 PM at the downtown Post Office, but if one drives out to the "real" central PO where the trucks are, one can get mail postmarked today until 10:30 PM.
Many people drive out from the city to the "real" PO to have the mail postmarked today.
If we had a 10 PM pickup box downtown that would be serviced by one truck, this would reduce many car trips by many people. The box could have a door which is shut tight until 2 AM the next day and it would be obvious from 100 meters that it is closed.
I know that we should plan ahead, yeah, right.
I know that the PO has a budget and they cannot squeeze one more truck trip, so maybe the city should find some money in a conservation fund to pay for this trip and to prevent these many extra trips by other cars.
I know that this applies only to Austin, but I think not.
