Colette & Zoë at home (chez nous)

Going Home

Today, Colette was discharged from the hospital.

Everythig is fine.

more details to follow - even a side-by-side picture

Hooray

two weeks old

Last night, Tuesday 5/30, I visited Colette in the hospital and she was in very good shape;
she has only one monitoring wire,
she drank 75cc's in less than 5 minutes
she burped mightly
she weighs 7 lbs 3.5 oz
the nurse told me to tell the parents to bring the baby-carrier because she might get discharged earlier than Thursday, Friday, or Saturday.

So, in my humble opinion, Colette goes home today.

Saturday May 27

Spent the late afternoon with Zoë who slept most of the time, then visited Colette in hospital who slept all of the time. Colette had just eaten. I don't know what Zoë's excuse was. (Am I making excuses? How can I have a favorite, I can't tell them apart?

Things look very bright now

Xray results: excellent.

The Xray was good. The healing is proceeding at a good pace. Colette is given a bottle every four hours.

Hooray!

Paulette and I went to see her this morning and she was nice and quiet. There was no word about when she would be going home.

more later as things come in.

twins? you said twins?

Here is a picture from 1949 of my seven cousins. Aubrey was a single birth, but he had three sets of twins as siblings.

Their mother, Aunt Florence, is still quite alert and vivacious and engaging. Her husband of 71 years is still quite healthy and good.

Maybe it is good to have twins? You don't have time to sit around and mope.

Name popularities

The twins were due on May 22, but they came early. The significance of May 22 is that the Astrological charts say that Gemini starts on that day, so they can be twins in actuality and also Astrologically by due-date.

I looked up the business of Umlauts and found other references to names and the popular names

Zoë is popular lately - like WOW

but
Colette seems to have peaked in the sixties and headed for a rebound.

week one

Here is a wrapup of the first week.
Maybe some of you got all of this already in pieces, but I am trying to make it an organized thing and send it to a BCC mailing list. I hope it makes sense.
Wednesday 1 PM
The twins were born on Wednesday
Baby-A at 7 lbs 12
Baby-B at 6 lbs 12
Mother and babies were doing fine then...
we found out that Baby-B will need surgery to repair the esophagus. It seems that the food pipe does not connect below the throat and that the food pipe above the stomach is connected to the windpipe.
The surgery consists of moving the stomach pipe off the windpipe and closing that hole in the side of the windpipe and then connecting the stomach pipe to the throat pipe. If all goes well, it might be accomplished via laproscopic surgery.
That night the cardiologist said that the heart was very good and that everything else looked very encouraging. We will know more later today. We have heard that "of all the serious defects to berepaired, this one is a good one to have".

======================
Thursday:
Today the surgery (4 hours) was a success; all done thorascoptically (laproscopic is the abdominal cavity, thorax is chest, but you knew that)
The surgeon said that he had been done the procedurethe old way by opening the ribs several times and he had been waiting for such a case for years. He gave us some pictures that were very impressive.
He was grinning from ear to ear.
amazing.

I'm sure that your prayers and the good hands guy worked well together.
She (Baby-B) will probably stay in the hospital for another three weeks, maybe four. The mother and Baby-A go home in the morning

maybe they will have names soon?
Buttermilk and Trigger?
more later
===================================
Friday:
Baby-B now has a name: Colette Ondine Gravois
Google give several Colette's. Here is a Frenchauthor:

I guess I will figure out how to write an umlaut in plain text soon enough

10:00 PM
We heard that Paulette's sister, Elaine had written apaper on this at St Louis University when she got her nursing degree about 50 years ago and that she knew of another case in Grand Rapids. Small world.
Here is Adam's real address:

Saturday: May 20
Today, Saturday May 20, I went to see Colette at 9 AM to talk about things in her future and to hold her hand. The nurse said that she could see a family resemblence, but I told Colette she will get overthat. Then we went to Adam's to do things.

Sunday: May 21 7:00 AM
I will go see Colette in a little while and then we will start to figure out how to schedule our housekeeping visits to Adam and Heather's house sothat we are not all there at the same time.

Zoe is home, Colette was attentive

Yesterday afternoon, Zoë and her mother Heather came home from the hospital.

Here are two grandmas and one brother, Jude posing for the camera.

I went to visit Colette in the ICU this morning (Sat 6/20) for about forty minutes and she was attentive to my whisperings.

Bike Helmets for Invisible riders

Currently we are arguing about bike helmets, but no one notices that cars don't hit bikers that they can see. I know that bike helmets are a religious issue, but if car drivers can see bikers, they try not to hit them. If a car driver wants to hit you, then your bike helmet will probably interfere with removing your organs for donation.

Home Depot has a safety vest for $9.99 which is perfectly adequate for me and I recommend it to anyone who does not need an uber-biker overpriced official vest.
